  a few years after i quit the meetings my mum needed her medical directive signed and witnessed and she asked if i'd do it.

  i think she was just angling to include me and maybe find some lever to get me involved again.

  I'm sorry nicolaou, I just disagree. By choosing to avoid situations (by not having children) where I'd have to force my will on others doesn't make me a coward. That's like telling a teenaged girl who decided NOT to get pregnant that she's a coward because she avoided the tough decision of whether to abort or deliver.

  It's the same thing. You're asking who has the final say over the choices we make regarding our own body. You or me? I don't want anyone taking those rights away from me regarding any issue. Whether it's blood, abortion, being 'sectioned' or anything else. Without the freedom to choose what happens to my own body I would rather be dead.

  This question is essentially a rewording of the pro life/ pro choice abortion question: "Does a woman have the right to control her own body?" Although I don't like the idea of abortion, it's not my place to decide. I feel the same way about the blood issue. I might not like it but it's not my place to force my will on someone else.

  nicolaou, to me, caring for people I love means respecting their wishes. When my mother was dying, I could have disrespected her wishes and selfishly kept her alive for a few more days or weeks by authorizing painful and invasive medical procedures. I chose to respect her wish for a peaceful pain-free and quick death even though I loved her so very much. I treated her just as I hope to be treated when I'm at death's door. Regarding children, I specifically do not have any, in large part, because I don't want to be faced with these decisions. Also, there are some things worse than death. Something tells me that you've never been 'sectioned'.

  Would a loving creator give humans the gift of free will?

  they say ignorance is bliss... well, i wish that god did not give adam free will.

  i am ok to not have free will if it means i will live forever in perfect paradisiac conditions.it has been explained that free will is a gift from god.

  Knowing what's now possible why cling to this old implausible narrative? I have no idea what's happening but I highly doubt it's what we've first learned. Wouldn't 'god' have worked out these issues theoretically first? Created computer models before actually creating another consciousness? (if that's even possible) With what we know today, why would we think such simple metaphorical stories such as 'Adam and Eve' have any basis in reality? (other than in principle) Isn't it more likely that we did this to ourselves? (or are doing) Even if someone had to be subjected to this madness, wouldn't it be required only once? To one person? And wouldn't 'god' go first? (afterward most likely to decide it's a bad idea)

  i tend to avoid the subject because it's too depressing, so i've probably missed lots of discussion about this issue.

  but i read a comment on youtube yesterday that shocked me and made me wonder.

  the person claimed that many years ago abusers in society generally identified jws as a safe haven for abusers and joined en masse order to exploit the situation.

  I couldn't imagine this network existing. It seems so improbable for a lot of reasons. Mainly because being a witness is no small commitment. All that work just to have access to children? What a miserable life if true.
